Weir Skimmer refers to any mechanical device specially designed to recover oil spill and oil-water mixture on water surface without changing its physical and chemical characteristics. The basic working principle of oil receiver is to separate oil from water surface by using the flow characteristics of oil and oil-water mixture, the density difference between oil and water, and the adsorbability of material to oil/oil-water mixture.

Oil receiver mainly includes weir type, belt type, dynamic inclined oil receiver type, brush type and vacuum type, of which weir type, belt type, dynamic inclined oil receiver type and brush type are used at sea, and vacuum type is used for shoreline protection.

1. Weir Skimmer

Weir oil collector is one of the most commonly used oil collectors. It uses gravity to make oil flow from the water surface into the oil collector and pump the oil in the oil collector into the oil storage container. It is suitable for recovering medium and low viscosity oil spills in quiet waters with wave height less than 0.3 meters. It has the advantages of small size, light weight, simple structure, easy maintenance, high recovery speed and wide application range.

2. Belt Oil Receiver

The belt oil collector absorbs oil spill on the water surface by means of a rotating oil-affinity adsorption belt. The oil spill absorbed by the belt oil collector is collected into the oil collector through scrapers or rollers. The belt oil receiver is mainly composed of adsorption belt, scraper (or roller), transmission device and oil collector. The belt oil receiver has the advantages of high recovery rate, high recovery efficiency, wide adaptability area and good wave-following performance. At the same time, the belt oil receiver also has the disadvantages of complex structure, large volume, the need for hoisting equipment to cooperate with the operation and high cost.

3. Dynamic Inclined Oil Receiver

The dynamic inclined oil receiver is mainly composed of screw pumps, removable dynamic inclined transmission belt, ship suspension support system, inflatable or solid buoy, oil guide plate, piping system, power station and automatic control system. It is suitable for oil spill with a wide range of viscosity, can recover oil spill during travel, is insensitive to tidal current, and is suitable for oil reservoirs with different thickness. It is less affected by floating garbage, has a wide application area, and has high recovery efficiency and speed.

4. Brush Oil Receiver

Brush oil collector refers to a mechanical device that uses brushes to recover oil spill. It mainly consists of several groups or rows of brushes, scrapers and oil collectors. Its working principle is that oil spill is adhered to a rotating brush and scraped down into the oil collector, and the oil spill pump is put into the oil storage device through a pump. It has the characteristics of high recovery efficiency, high speed and good wave-following performance. It can be applied to 1 meter high wave and is easy to maintain.

5. Vacuum Oil Receiver

Vacuum skimmer is commonly known as "skimmer", which is a device that uses suction pump or vacuum pump to establish vacuum in vacuum storage tank and recover oil-water mixture through pressure difference at skimmer. Vacuum skimmer has the characteristics of small size, simple operation, portable, mobile, insensitive to garbage, easy maintenance and low cost.

6. Disc Receiver

The disc type oil collector refers to the oil spill recovery equipment which uses the oil-affinity material to rotate in the oil-water mixture. When the disc rotates out, the absorbed oil spill is scraped into the oil collector and pumped to the oil storage container. Its advantages are good adaptability to light oil, high recovery efficiency, good adaptability to garbage and simple maintenance. The scope of application is wide.

7. Rope Oil Receiver

Rope-type oil collector is a device which absorbs oil spill on water surface with a certain length of circular rope mop made of floating lipophilic material and extrudes the oil spill adsorbed by rope mop through roller extrusion device and stores it in the oil collector. It has the advantages of good wave-following, high recovery efficiency, small impact by garbage, large coverage area, easy maintenance and cost. Low cost and other advantages.
